Gayle and Jason celebrated their wedding at Ridgeway Golf Club, surrounded by family and friends for a relaxed South Wales wedding day.

From the preparations and ceremony through to portraits, speeches and the evening celebrations, the focus was on creating a complete photographic story of the day rather than simply concentrating on a handful of formal photographs.

My style combines natural documentary wedding photography with relaxed portraits, allowing couples to spend more time enjoying their wedding and less time feeling like they’re taking part in a photoshoot.

Wedding Preparations

The preparations are where the story of the wedding really begins.

Alongside the traditional details, I look for the moments happening naturally around them — conversations, laughter, nerves and the reactions of family and friends as everyone gets ready.

These photographs help give the finished gallery a real sense of progression from the quieter start of the day through to the celebrations later on.

The Ceremony

The ceremony is one part of the wedding where I keep direction to an absolute minimum.

Instead, I concentrate on documenting what happens naturally: the arrival, the entrance, reactions from guests, vows, rings and the first moments after the couple are officially married.

This allows the photographs to reflect how the ceremony actually felt rather than interrupting it unnecessarily.

Wedding Portraits at Ridgeway Golf Club

After the ceremony, we spent some time creating portraits around Ridgeway Golf Club.

I keep couple portraits relaxed, giving enough guidance that you never feel unsure about what to do without making the photographs look overly posed.

The idea is to create photographs that feel natural while making the most of the venue and surrounding scenery.

You don't need hours away from your guests either. A few shorter portrait sessions throughout the day can often produce more variety while fitting naturally around everything else happening.

Family and Guest Photographs

Alongside the couple portraits, family photographs are an important part of the day.

I normally recommend keeping the formal group list relatively short so it doesn't take over the afternoon, while continuing to photograph friends and family naturally throughout the reception.

This gives you the important photographs everyone expects as well as plenty of candid images showing people simply enjoying themselves.

Wedding Speeches

Speeches bring together some of the best reactions of the entire day.

While the person speaking is obviously important, I’m also constantly looking around the room for laughter, tears, reactions and interactions between guests.

It means the photographs tell the story of the speeches rather than simply showing who was standing with the microphone.

First Dance and Evening Celebrations

As the formal parts of the wedding finished, the first dance opened the evening celebrations.

This is where the photography becomes even more documentary-led, capturing people on the dance floor, conversations between guests and all the energy of the evening.

It provides a natural ending to the story that began much earlier in the day.
